Vitor Pereira wants to return to the Premier League to win the title. The former Nottingham Forest head coach says he is waiting for the right opportunity to come back and fight for trophies.
Pereira, who was in charge at the City Ground for four-and-a-half months before being dismissed last summer, stated his ambition clearly. "I want to reach a level where I can compete for titles in the Premier League," he said. He added that the challenge and motivation of England's top flight drives him, and he feels recharged after a break from the game.
Forest's managerial transition
Pereira was replaced by Oliver Glasner after Forest's owners decided on a change in the summer. His tenure, which began in February when he succeeded Sean Dyche, saw the club secure Premier League survival. He referenced his prior work keeping Wolverhampton Wanderers in the division, a feat he once compared to winning the Champions League. Pereira's wider career includes league title wins with Porto, Olympiacos, and Shanghai SIPG.
His comments come as his old club handles a difficult start to the new campaign. Nottingham Forest currently sit 18th in the Premier League with just six points from their opening eight matches, having recorded only one win, three draws, and four defeats. They have scored just six goals while conceding ten, leaving them with a goal difference of minus four and a significant 15 points behind the league leaders. Their recent form shows no wins in four games, with three defeats and a draw. They face a tough test next, travelling to face sixth-placed Brentford on Saturday 31 October.
Pereira's readiness
After what he describes as his longest break from management since leaving Flamengo in 2023, Pereira says he is ready. He spent time with family, traveled, and stepped away from the football bubble before returning to study the game. "My next objective is to reach a competitive level that allows me to fight for titles in the Premier League," Pereira stated.
For Forest, the immediate focus is on halting their slide down the standings. Their next chance comes at the Gtech Community Stadium against a Brentford side they beat 2-0 in their last meeting. The fixture on 31 October represents a critical moment in their season.
