Nottingham Forest saw a transfer move for Corinthians midfielder Andre collapse after failing to respond to a counter offer from the Brazilian club. The Premier League side, currently 15th with one point from two games, had submitted a bid of €12 million (£10m) for the 20-year-old late last month as they sought to strengthen Oliver Glasner's squad.

The offer arrived via the player's agent, Diogo Silva, at 8.28pm Brazilian time on Saturday, August 22nd. Corinthians executive Marcelo Paz confirmed the club presented a counter proposal just over an hour later, at 9.54pm. "After that, nothing else came from Nottingham Forest regarding the Andre transfer," Paz told Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte. Forest had already added midfielder Xaver Schlager earlier in the summer and brought in five new players overall before the deadline, with a sixth, Gustavo Sa, moving immediately on loan to sister club Olympiacos.

The breakdown appears rooted in a valuation gap and differing market approaches. While Forest's offer was a straight €12 million with no add-ons, Corinthians deemed it insufficient. Sources close to the club's president told Globo Esporte they did not accept bids "considered low and without the possibility of future bonuses." This stance was criticised by Andre's agent, Diogo Silva, who felt the price set by Corinthians was "far from what the English and Greek clubs were offering." Silva argued the counter proposals were made "to avoid a sale." He also referenced a higher, €17 million (£14.7m) bid from AC Milan earlier in the year that Corinthians rejected. "Corinthians can't refuse a €17 million deal and then not receive any offers even similar to that one," Silva said.

Diogo Silva was vocal in his criticism of how Corinthians handled the interest in his client from Forest and Olympiacos, who reportedly bid €10m (£8.7m). He pointed to a perceived lack of expertise in the European transfer market. "In the corporate world of 2026, there's no more poker talk, no more bluffing," Silva stated. "The market determines a player's price." His comments suggest a fundamental disagreement on Andre's worth and the club's strategy for realising it.

With the Andre pursuit over, Forest's midfield reinforcements for the early season consist of Xaver Schlager. The club's focus now shifts to integrating their new signings and improving results on the pitch. After conceding three goals and scoring two in their opening matches, they sit five points behind early leaders Manchester City. Their immediate task is a home fixture against Tottenham Hotspur on September 5th.

The young midfielder is expected to remain with Corinthians until at least the end of the current Brazilian season. However, a move to Europe remains his preferred path, and a transfer could be revisited in the coming months. For Nottingham Forest, the search for midfield options may continue, but any further activity will have to wait until the next transfer window opens. The club's next match is at the City Ground against 20th-placed Tottenham.
