Nottingham Forest are accelerating efforts to sign Anan Khalaili after Inter Milan’s proposed €25m move for the Union Saint-Gilloise winger fell through at the medical stage. The 21-year-old, valued for his adaptability across left-back, wing-back and attacking roles, is now a prime target for Forest as they aim to bolster Oliver Glasner’s squad.
Why did Inter Milan pull out?
Inter had agreed a €30m package (€25m upfront plus €5m in add-ons) for Khalaili, who had even completed internal medical checks. However, the deal collapsed during mandatory cardiac screening in Italy, where certification was denied. This setback has opened the door for Forest, who have already submitted a €20m bid, though Union SG are holding out for closer to Inter’s original guaranteed sum.
How does Khalaili fit Nottingham Forest’s plans?
Khalaili’s versatility aligns with Forest’s need for multi-role players. Comfortable in defence and attack, he offers depth and competition in a squad that finished 16th in the Premier League last season with 33 points (8W-9D-15L) and a -12 goal difference. Forest have also made clear Dan Ndoye, another target for Inter, is not for sale, underlining their focus on retaining key attackers while adding fresh options.
What happens next?
Negotiations are ongoing, with Forest reportedly the most aggressive suitor. Khalaili, who declared himself “healthy, perfect and ready to play” after the Inter collapse, played 99 games in the last two years, averaging nearly 90 minutes per match. Forest’s next fixture is at home to Manchester United on 20 February 2027, but their immediate priority is securing Khalaili before the window closes.
