Nottingham Forest are preparing a January bid for Fenerbahce left-back Archie Brown, but the transfer hinges entirely on the fitness of another defender. The club's pursuit of the 24-year-old is reportedly conditional on Fenerbahce's Jayden Oosterwolde recovering from a significant injury sustained in August, which was initially expected to sideline him for approximately three months.
Forest, who currently sit 15th in the Premier League standings with five points from their opening six matches, are determined to strengthen their defensive options. The team has conceded 10 goals in those six games, a record they are keen to improve. They are willing to pay around €15m (£12.6m) for Brown, though the Turkish side would demand at least double that figure, closer to €30m, if the player formally requests to leave. Brown is contracted to Fenerbahce until 2028 and has made 10 appearances this season, scoring twice.
Oosterwolde fitness is key
The central condition for any sale is the fitness of Oosterwolde. The Dutch defender's recovery timeline is critical. "If Oosterwolde is behind in his recovery then approval will not be given for Brown to be sold," a report stated. Forest will hope he regains full fitness in time to allow a January move, as Fenerbahce will not sanction a departure without adequate cover in that position.
Brown's background and Forest's interest
Archie Brown is a product of Derby County's academy, having also come through at West Bromwich Albion. He moved to Lausanne-Sport and Gent before signing for Fenerbahce in the summer of 2025. Forest's recruitment team have been impressed by his physical displays and attacking output from the left-back role and remain keen on his signature as they look to bolster their squad ahead of a challenging schedule.
The club's immediate focus, however, is on their next Premier League fixtures, beginning with a home match against second-placed Arsenal this weekend. Their recent form has been inconsistent, with one win, one draw, and two losses in their last four outings, making the quest for defensive reinforcements in January a clear priority to aid their survival bid.
