Nottingham Forest must accelerate their pursuit of Celtic striker Daizen Maeda after the 28-year-old reiterated his desire to join a Premier League club. The Reds finished 16th last season with 44 points (11W-11D-16L), scoring just 48 goals while conceding 51. Manager Oliver Glasner is keen to bolster his attack ahead of the new campaign.
Why Maeda is a top target for Forest
Maeda enjoyed a remarkable turnaround in form last season, netting 17 goals and providing 10 assists in 54 appearances. His nine strikes in the final seven games helped Celtic secure another Premiership title. The Japan international, who scored once at the World Cup last month, has just one year left on his contract.
What Maeda has said about his future
Speaking to Japanese media, Maeda said: "I’ve always wanted to play in the Premier League. This year might be my chance. My strongest desire is to play there for at least a year. I think it’s the best league, and I’m confident I can do it there." He added that negotiations between Celtic and potential suitors are ongoing.
Forest's attacking options under review
Glasner is reshaping his squad, with Jean-Philippe Mateta set to join from Crystal Palace. Dan Ndoye impressed at the World Cup, but Arnaud Kalimuendo and Taiwo Awoniyi’s futures are uncertain. Awoniyi has just under a year left on his deal and struggled for game time last season.
Forest’s recent form saw them draw 1-1 with Bournemouth in their final game of the 2025-26 season. Their next fixture is a home friendly against Blackburn on July 22.
