Amit Bhatia says buying part of Liverpool is the stuff of dreams as he vowed to help bring more success to the greatest club in the world. The British-Indian businessman, who is leading the consortium which recently agreed a deal with owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG) for a 38 per cent stake in Liverpool, will attend Saturday's Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest at Anfield with his family. Bhatia was invited by FSG principal owner John Henry as he awaits regulatory approval for the investment from 1892 Holdings, which also includes Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin. Bhatia told LFCTV there is just so much to admire about Liverpool and it is subject to all kinds of regulatory approvals that they are going through.
What the Forest fixture means for Liverpool's new consortium
Saturday's Premier League fixture at Anfield pits Liverpool against Nottingham Forest, who sit 15th in the Premier League table with 0 points from 1 game. The visitors have conceded 1 goal and scored 0 this season, sitting 6 points behind leaders Manchester City in the early title race. Forest's next fixture is at home to Tottenham on 5 September 2026, a game they currently sit 17th in the table for. Ibrahim Sangaré, Nicolò Savona, Morgan Gibbs-White, Neco Williams and Ryan Yates are currently sidelined for the visitors.
Who is in the Liverpool ownership group
Bhatia, who was previously co-owner of Championship club Queens Park Rangers, added that his involvement would be in any capacity that FSG felt they could be useful. The ownership group comes from different geographies and professions, bringing different experiences and ideas. If the investment is approved then Bhatia will become Liverpool's new vice-chairman and sit on an expanded board of directors, along with Elaine Saverin from EE Capital and Bryan Baum of K5 Sports. Bezos will not have a seat on the board and will not be attending Saturday's game against Forest.
What the regulatory approval means for Forest supporters
The investment awaits regulatory approval from 1892 Holdings, the vehicle through which Bezos, Saverin and other investors are backing the takeover. Bhatia says the potential for the football club is still vast ahead of them and they have had discussions with FSG as to those thoughts. Hopefully if everything goes well, their association with the club will be for a long period of time. They are very excited to see what the future holds for them in that regard.
